| News: Soulplace is a place for the discussion of faith and doubt, beliefs and questions. Originally set up by a group in the UK in or near the Christian tradition, it is intended to be a place for people of all sorts of faith backgrounds to meet and discover what we hold in common and where we differ. We want it to be a space to find understanding, encouragement and challenge, and to learn the hard lessons of respect and honesty. We welcome pilgrims, explorers, reckless adventurers and the hopelessly lost. |

I am torn between pity for his profound sickness, and exasperation for the power he has been given.

Thanks, yes it had me in tears. I'm in my 60s so I guess that's a fairly long wait. |

I could go on, but Janets plastic green house has just sailed past the window. Thatchers fault no doubt. I now have a lovely mental image of you chasing a plastic greenhouse down the road! ![]() |

Little has changed in my lifetime in the attitude of the ruling class, and many of the ruled class. They still see people who have to work for a living as a threat and restrictive policing as the answer. They still scare themselves silly at the thought that the 'reds' are coming. They still speak down using the same mindless platitudes. They still will not see that short term greedy solutions equal long term ruin.
Hence, it is never the right time to criticise the politicians, the police, royalty, the church or any other organ of control. The media goad the police and some of the public into wetting themselves at imagined dangers. For example: the 4000 police the papers say were tasked with guarding the coffin today from the hoards of rioting Socialist Worker inspired rioters about to devastate London, and the victorious self congratulation when they didn't turn up. Always the constant attempt to polarise views to forment trouble to discredit opposition. On top of this there is the complete inability to join sentences together in any kind of order to make sense. Examples: Maggie defeated the Unions. Ok, but did that then allow UK industry to then spring forward and create new wealth - er, no actually. It's all either closed or foreign owned. Maggie freed the people from the shackles of world class UK Nationalised industries. Ok, but now they are all neither World class, or UK owned. Maggie freed industry from costly red tape. OK, so why did we have Mad Cow disease? and why did the money industry saved from not having to employ apprentices and have training schemes translate into ridiculous bonus schemes instead of shareholder value? and such a shortage of skilled workers that the UK had to import millions of skilled workers from abroad. Maggie sorted out the Argies once and for all........ I could go on, but Janets plastic green house has just sailed past the window. Thatchers fault no doubt. |

Seems to me that 'offence' is used as a weapon too often. Why is it never seen as offensive to speak of people like Thatcher as 'great leaders'? To those whose communities suffered greatly under her cosh, it's extremely offensive.
